PERSONAL PROJECTS
Here's a selection of fun illustrations I've created recently.
I particularly enjoy developing characters full of personality in vividly imagined scenes, using layers of colour, texture and movement.
The only issue is that I've got too many ideas and not enough time to get them down on paper!
I like to work in Procreate for digital illustrations, but also with a good old pencil!
I am proud to be one of three new New Zealand Illustrators shortlisted for the Gavin Bishop Illustration Award in 2024.
I loved creating these fun illustrations for Kyle Mewburn’s wonderful story ‘Go, Scooter, Go!’, crafting a quirky world in which
our wee hero Hugo is zooming along on his scooter to go and visit his Granny.
Mr.Stubbs - The Cat With No Tail
I'm in the midst of bringing to life a children's book for a client in the US, all about a plucky cat who lost his tail when he was a kitten. Based on a children's song written a few years ago, the author has adapted the story and asked me to bring Mr. Stubbs to life in book form. We've just finalised the storyboard and now I'm into the exciting stage of colouring. Here's a sneak peek of Mr.Stubbs' world.
I created these two illustrations below as an entry to the Margaret Mahy Illustration Prize in 2023, based on the story 'Seventeen Kings and Forty Two Elephants'.
These illustrations are part of a personal project called 'The Great Kiwi Rocket Build'. The dreams of our flightless bird gang are realised when they work together and build a rocket to launch into space.
A couple of the creatures riding bikes series, created with Quink Ink and coloured pencil on water colour paper
Character development for Yellow and Yeti. A story idea about an unlikely friendship that I have had rattling around in my brain for a very long time! One day, I plan to make this into a children's storybook.
